This week turned out to be one of Samsung’s busiest in a long time. It handled multiple major rollouts at once, including the One UI 9 beta program, One UI 8.5 stable expansion and both May and April 2026 security update releases. Samsung officially kicked off the One UI 9 beta program for the Galaxy S26 series, while the stable One UI 8.5 rollout expanded to more Galaxy devices and regions. At the same time, the company also started rolling out the May 2026 security patch for a few devices, while some others continued receiving the April 2026 update. Last updated on May 17.

Samsung begins One UI 9 beta, expands One UI 8.5 stable and releases new security updates this week

Starting with the Galaxy S26 series, Samsung unexpectedly opened the One UI 9 beta program for users in Germany, South Korea, the UK and the US. This marks the first beta release for the flagship lineup. Shortly after the rollout began, Samsung also pushed a hotfix update for One UI 9 beta users in the US. As of now, users in India and Poland have not received access yet, but they could join the party around May 26.

As far as One UI 8.5 stable rollout activity is concerned, Samsung has now expanded the Android 16 QPR2-based One UI 8.5 update to more regions and devices. The Galaxy S25 series, Galaxy Z Fold 7, Galaxy Z Flip 7 lineup and more devices are now receiving the stable update globally, while Samsung’s 2024 flagship and foldable lineup has also started picking up the release in select regions.

Flagship and foldable devices are not part of the rollout yet. The May 2026 patch fixes around 40 security vulnerabilities, so it is recommended to install the update once available.

Looking ahead, next week could become important for Samsung users again. We may see the wider global One UI 8.5 rollout for Samsung’s 2024 flagship and foldable devices. If things move quickly, the Korean giant could also begin stable One UI 8.5 rollouts for devices like the Galaxy S23 series, Z Fold 5, Flip 5 and the A56, at least in its home country. We’ll keep you posted.
