Don’t Sit Out on Samsung’s May 2026 Security Patch — Here’s Why

Samsung has begun rolling out its May 2026 security update for Galaxy devices, and the patch is more important than usual. The latest update includes fixes for a zero-click Android vulnerability that could allow attackers to execute code without user interaction. So make sure to install this month’s patch as soon as it reaches your Galaxy device.
Google patched a critical zero-click Android vulnerability
Samsung’s monthly Security Maintenance Release (SMR) contains patches from Google and Samsung. The Android Security Bulletin includes patches for vulnerabilities discovered in the core Android system. Likewise, the Korean firm includes its own security fixes described as Samsung Vulnerabilities and Exposures (SVE).
While Samsung already detailed most of its SVEs as part of the May 2026 security package, a new zero-click critical vulnerability has recently come to light from Google’s end. Identified as CVE-2026-0073, the Mountain View giant listed the vulnerability under the System section.
“The vulnerability in this section could lead to remote (proximal/adjacent) code execution as the shell user with no additional execution privileges needed. User interaction is not needed for exploitation,” reads the description. Simply put, the exploit does not need the user to click a link, and an attack can happen silently in the background.
In addition to Samsung’s SVE fixes, this zero-click flaw makes this month’s security update even more important. It shows why you should install the latest security patch as soon as it becomes available. Galaxy users can check for the update by following this route: Settings > Software update > Download and install. Don’t forget to restart your device as the patch may not function correctly.
As of this writing, three Galaxy A devices, including the Galaxy A55, Galaxy A54, and Galaxy A56, have picked up the May 2026 security update. Samsung may expand the update to more Galaxy devices in the coming days.
