TM Roh, president of Samsung’s Device eXperience (DX) division, recently visited China. The executive’s trip includes meetings with several companies, including BOE. The visit comes as the Chinese panel maker seeks to expand business with the Korean firm, with the Galaxy S27 being a target device.
Galaxy S27 deal not finalized, but Samsung may expand TV display orders from BOE
According to a report from ZDNet Korea, TM Roh recently visited BOE’s new B16 production line in Chengdu, China. The line is an 8.6-generation OLED factory that recently started mass production. The facility is designed to manufacture OLED panels for IT products such as laptops.
Several executives from Samsung’s Visual Display (VD) unit, which oversees the TV segment, reportedly joined the trip. This suggests that the visit is focused mainly on the Korean giant’s TV and display business. BOE is currently looking for more customers for its new B16 OLED line. The visit could pave the way for new supply contracts between the two firms.
In late 2025, BOE and Samsung Display settled a long-running patent dispute. The legal battle (which lasted more than three years) weakened relations between the two companies. Since the dispute has now been resolved, BOE may want to solidify its business ties with Samsung.
There is chatter that Samsung wants to increase its purchases of TV LCD panels from BOE to reduce its dependence on CSOT. As a result, the visit has drawn attention as a possible sign of a new partnership between Samsung and BOE.
TM Roh also heads Samsung’s MX unit, which oversees the smartphone segment. This raises the possibility that discussions may also include OLED panels for smartphones. Reports suggest BOE may supply OLED panels for the base Galaxy S27, expected to debut in Q1 2027. Even the upcoming Galaxy S26 FE is said to use BOE’s panel.
Samsung usually uses in-house OLED panels for its flagship phones. However, rising component costs may force the company to pursue alternative sourcing options. BOE is reportedly offering OLED panels at $5 less per unit than Samsung Display. It remains to be seen if the Korean firm goes ahead with the deal.
