Samsung is preparing to launch a wider foldable smartphone this year. Tentatively called the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide, the device should arrive alongside the regular Fold 8 in late July. It has long been rumored to feature a dual camera setup, and we now have additional details.

Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide may use dual 50MP rear cameras

According to a new report from GalaxyClub, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide will feature a 50MP dual-camera setup on the back. It gets a 50MP primary shooter and a 50MP ultrawide lens, with no dedicated zoom hardware. The main camera reportedly uses an F1.8 aperture lens, while the ultrawide camera will feature an F1.9 aperture lens. Both sensors support autofocus and likely offer 8K video recording at 30fps.

The new report also confirms two 10MP selfie cameras on the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide, one each on the two screens. Samsung has already abandoned the under-display camera technology, so expect a punch-hole setup for both selfie shooters. Leaked renders have already shown that.

Overall speaking, cameras may not be the strength of this phone. It is kind of a foldable mini tablet, as you get a wide 4:3 screen measuring 7.6 inches when unfolded. When folded, a 5.4-inch screen sits at the front, with a 4.7:3 aspect ratio. With the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide, Samsung is targeting a certain group of users that wanst something different from its existing Fold models.

Speaking of which, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 is expected to come with a triple-camera setup, including a dedicated telephoto sensor. Both foldables should use Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset paired with at least 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. The wider model reportedly gets a Dark Green color, though there should be additional options. Samsung may officially launch the devices on July 22.
