Samsung has finally confirmed what many have been waiting to hear: a next-generation Galaxy Ring is in the works. The company isn’t ready to talk much just yet, but it has revealed where it’s heading. And it looks like software will be just as important as the hardware.
Samsung says Galaxy Ring 2 won’t be all about better hardware
Dr. Hon Pak, Samsung’s Senior Vice President and Head of the Digital Health Team, confirmed the news in an interview with Forbes. He said Samsung is working on the next Galaxy Ring (presumably, Galaxy Ring 2) and is looking at improving battery life and sensors. Still, he believes most smart rings already offer similar sensor hardware these days.
That’s why Samsung thinks the real battle will be won through software. Pak said the company wants to build smarter AI-powered health features that use data from the Galaxy Ring alongside Galaxy watches, phones, and even SmartThings devices. In other words, Samsung’s connected ecosystem will do the heavy lifting.
Will Galaxy Ring 2 support iPhones?
Pak also dropped an interesting hint about something many users have been asking for. When questioned about iPhone support, he didn’t confirm anything outright, but he didn’t deny it either. Instead, he simply smiled and said people would be “very pleased” with some upcoming announcements.
Rumors have already claimed the Galaxy Ring 2 could become thinner, lighter, and last up to nine or ten days on a charge. Improved skin temperature tracking and new cardiovascular health features have also been mentioned. For now, though, Samsung hasn’t confirmed any of those rumored upgrades.
There’s still no word on when the next Galaxy Ring will arrive. While some expected it to debut at the next Galaxy Unpacked event, recent reports suggest a launch this year is unlikely. Even so, one thing’s no longer a mystery. The Galaxy Ring 2 is definitely on the way.
