Samsung is hard at work on its next-gen foldables, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7. The company also has two new models in the pipeline this year — the Galaxy Z Flip FE and a tri-fold likely called the Galaxy G Fold. Expected to launch in July or August, leaks about these devices are starting to pick up pace. A fresh leak reveals the potential camera setup for the Fold 7 and Flip 7.
Galaxy Z Fold 7 may feature a 200MP camera, but no changes for Flip 7
According to X leaker @TheGalox_, Samsung is likely to keep the rear cameras unchanged on its Flip foldable this year. Not only does the Galaxy Z Flip 7 miss out on a triple camera setup, but it may have to reuse the same sensors as the 2024 model. We are looking at a 50MP primary shooter with dual-pixel PDAF (phase-detection autofocus) and OIS (optical image stabilization).
The other one is an ultrawide lens featuring a 12MP sensor. Cameras have been one of the weaknesses of Samsung’s Flip line, and the company seemingly won’t address it this year. A flagship phone costing over $1,100 deserves a zoom camera. But guess these are the sorts of compromises you have to make when picking up a non-conventional smartphone.
The good news is that Samsung might upgrade the Galaxy Z Fold 7’s camera setup. There have been rumors about the new Fold potentially borrowing the 200MP main camera from the super-slim Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition launched last year. The Special Edition is the thinnest foldable Samsung has ever made but is only sold in China and South Korea. The Fold 7 might be its global variant of sorts.
If true, we are in for a notable upgrade from the same 50MP primary camera on the Fold 6. The other cameras might remain unchanged — a 10MP 3x zoom camera and a 12MP ultrawide lens. Or maybe Samsung will upgrade to the new 50MP ultrawide camera introduced on the Galaxy S25 Ultra last month. We shall find out in the coming months.
