Galaxy Z Fold 7 Could be the Global Version of Fold SE You’ve Been Waiting For

Samsung could be gearing up for major upgrades to its 2025 foldable lineup. Reports suggest that both the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7 may feature larger screens and potentially a slimmer design. Additionally, the company is preparing to introduce a more budget-friendly Flip model, alongside the anticipated launch of a second-generation Fold SE.

The Galaxy Z Fold 7 is inspired by the Fold SE, industry insider confirms

A few weeks ago, Samsung launched the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition (SE) in China and South Korea. We imported the device from Korea and found it the best foldable the company has ever made. Its big and slim design strikes a perfect balance of usability, functionality, and portability. Unsurprisingly, Samsung faced significant backlash for limiting this amazing product to just two markets, leaving fans worldwide disappointed.

It turns out the Korean firm plans to offer these upgrades globally next year. The Galaxy Z Fold 7 will reportedly sport a similar design as the Fold SE with the same screen sizes. We are talking about an 8-inch folding panel and a 6.5-inch cover screen. The Fold 6 has 7.6-inch and 6.3-inch displays. The 2025 model should support the S Pen, so it may not be as slim as the SE. With no S Pen digitizer needed, the latter is only 4.9mm thick when unfolded and 10.6mm when folded.

However, a bigger profile allows Samsung to reduce the thickness of the battery and other internal components. The Fold 7 is quite likely to be slimmer than the Fold 6 — 5.6mm/12.1mm. Reports suggest the S Pen digitizer is 0.3mm thick. If true, the upcoming foldable could be somewhere around 5.2mm thick when unfolded and 11.2mm when folded, which is a significant upgrade over the Fold 6.

Coming to the Galaxy Z Flip 7, display industry veteran and Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC) CEO Ross Young hints at a 6.85-inch main display and a 4-inch cover screen. That is another huge upgrade over the Flip 6’s 6.7-inch and 3.4-inch displays. This likely means Samsung is making the device bigger, potentially reducing its thickness. The Flip 6 is 6.9mm when unfolded and 14.9mm when folded. Samsung’s Flip foldables do not support the S Pen.

There is also an affordable Flip in the pipeline

The latest foldable display report from DSCC also confirmed the existence of a second Flip model in Samsung’s 2025 pipeline. It will be an affordable clamshell foldable, likely to be named the Galaxy Z Flip FE or Flip 7 FE. The device is expected to feature one of Samsung’s previous-gen flagship processors — the Exynos 2400 or Exynos 2400e. The Flip 7 might run the Exynos 2500 or a Snapdragon processor. It’s unclear how the two models will differ beyond the processor choice.

Interestingly, this report doesn’t mention a second Fold model. Samsung has been rumored to launch a new Fold SE in 2025. Maybe it canceled the plans and decided to make the regular Fold 7 slimmer. Expect more details in the coming months as the company speeds up its development. All of these foldables should launch in the third quarter of 2025.
