Google Maps could soon do more than help you find a great place to eat. A new feature spotted in a recent Android app build suggests Google is working on a way for Ask Maps to order food for users. If it rolls out, you may only need to describe what you’re craving, and the app could handle the rest.
Ask Maps may soon help you find food and place the order too
The discovery comes from Google Maps version 26.27.00.941319029 for Android. While the feature isn’t live yet, Android Authority uncovered code strings pointing to an upcoming option called “Ask Maps to order food.” The text suggests you’ll be able to discover nearby favorites before Maps places the order for you, even while you’re out and about.
That could make things a lot easier for people who are always on the go. Instead of switching between restaurant apps or websites, users could simply tell Ask Maps what they’re in the mood for and let it take care of the order. If the feature works as the code suggests, your food could be ready by the time you get there.
There are still a few things we don’t know. It’s unclear whether food ordering will rely entirely on Gemini in the cloud or use Google’s newer AI agent features. Some recent AI capabilities have been linked to specific hardware, but Maps has traditionally worked across a broad range of Android devices.
For now, this feature exists only in the latest Google Maps app code, so there’s no guarantee it’ll launch in its current form. Google regularly tests features before making them official. We’ll be keeping an eye on future updates to see when, or if, this one makes the cut.
