Galaxy A56 gets Samsung’s May 2026 Update — One UI 8.5 Next?

Samsung has started rolling out the May 2026 security update to the Galaxy A56. This is the third model to receive the latest security patch, after the Galaxy A55 and A54 (besides Galaxy S26 units on One UI 9 Beta). The update arrives as the company prepares to bring the much bigger One UI 8.5 upgrade to its mid-range devices in the coming weeks.

Samsung’s May 2026 security update reaches the Galaxy A56 with a bunch of fixes

The new update for the Galaxy A56 includes Samsung’s May 2026 Security Maintenance Release (SMR), which patches dozens of vulnerabilities affecting Galaxy devices. In total, the company is pushing fixes for 39 security vulnerabilities across Android OS and Galaxy components. The rollout has now started in select regions (via X/@galaxyupdatesx) and should gradually expand to more countries over the coming days.

As expected, the update does not introduce any new features or visual changes for the Galaxy A56. The focus is entirely on improving system security and overall device stability. However, something big is on the way for the device. Samsung is preparing One UI 8.5 for its mid-range lineup, and the Galaxy A56 should be one of the first to get it. Users can manually check for the update by heading to Settings > Software update > Download and install.

The company officially began the stable One UI 8.5 rollout earlier this month, initially focusing on recent flagship devices before gradually expanding availability globally. Mid-range models from the past couple of years may get the update later this month or in early June.
