Rumors have long pointed to a slimmer and lighter Galaxy Z Flip 8, and a trusted source has now reinforced those claims. If the latest leak is accurate, Samsung’s next clamshell foldable will be incredibly thin and lightweight to carry. The device launches later this month.
Leak reconfirms Galaxy Z Flip 8 dimensions ahead of launch
At 6.5mm thick when unfolded and 13.7mm when folded, last year’s Galaxy Z Flip 7 is already pretty slim. Samsung cut the folded thickness by more than 1mm from the Flip 6’s 14.9mm profile (6.9mm when unfolded). Now, with the Flip 8, the company is doubling down on its quest to build thinner foldables.
Leaks suggest the Galaxy Z Flip 8 will have a folded thickness of 13.2mm, while its unfolded profile drops to just 6.5mm. The device also sheds some weight, now weighing just 180 grams instead of 188 grams as its predecessor. The numbers may seem modest on paper, but a slimmer and lighter body can make a noticeable difference in everyday use.
Of course, the new Flip isn’t all about a refined build and design. It also brings upgrades across several key areas, including a less visible crease on the main folding display. The outer cover screen may also allow you to open more apps without requiring a special launcher, while the charging speed could finally see a boost from 25W to 45W.
As always, these details remain unofficial until Samsung makes its announcement. However, we may not have to wait much longer now. The Galaxy Z Flip 8 is expected to debut alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Fold 8 Ultra at Samsung’s next Galaxy Unpacked event later this month, possibly on July 22. Stay tuned.
