Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 8 series may bring a redesigned hinge system. Leaks suggest the company may make the folding experience smoother while reducing the display crease. If true, this could be one of the biggest improvements to the foldable yet, addressing issues with crease visibility and hinge feel.

Samsung appears to have redesigned its hinge system for the Galaxy Z Fold 8 series

The Galaxy Z Fold 8 series will reportedly include the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra and Z Fold 8. The former may arrive as the successor to the Galaxy Z Fold 7 with a regular book-style foldable design, while the latter may adopt a shorter and wider form factor. Now, leaks reveal Samsung’s new approach to the hinge system.

According to tipster Lanzuk, Samsung has improved the hinge system in the Galaxy Z Fold 8 series to make the opening and closing experience smoother. Users may feel a semi-automatic motion, meaning the device moves more naturally into position. This is said to be due to component improvements and magnets embedded in some locations.

Meanwhile, well-known tipster Ice Universe says the Galaxy Z Fold 8 series will not be as easy to hold at certain angles as previous models. “The hinge feel of the Galaxy Z Fold 8 series is noticeably different from previous generations. To further improve the crease, Samsung has made the folding and unfolding action more decisive,” they said.

While Lanzuk describes the new hinge as smoother, Ice Universe sees things differently. Anyway, Samsung may have made the changes for a good reason.

Ice Universe says the new hinge design improves crease control. As a result, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 series may see a huge reduction in the display crease’s visibility. This could bring its crease performance closer to the OPPO Find N6, which offers the world’s first Zero-Feel Crease foldable screen.
