Galaxy Z Fold 8 (Wide) and Fold 8 Ultra Take a Step Closer to Launch

With the official launch fast approaching, Samsung may have begun obtaining regulatory approvals for its next-gen foldables. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 (Wide) and Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra recently surfaced in South Korea’s Safety Korea certification database. The Flip 8 should also appear soon, completing the new lineup.

Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Fold 8 Ultra appear in Safety Korea certification

The newly discovered Safety Korea listings reveal two unreleased Samsung devices with model numbers SM-F971N and SM-F976N. These should be the Korean versions of the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra. If leaks are accurate, the former is the all-new wide model, while the latter is the traditional Fold succeeding last year’s Fold 7.

While the certification does not disclose detailed specifications, it confirms that Samsung is actively completing regulatory approvals ahead of the devices’ expected launch. Interestingly, these listings classify the Fold 8 (Wide) and Fold 8 Ultra as “tablet PC” rather than smartphones. That’s somewhat true, considering the massive screens you get with these devices.

The Wide model is expected to come with a 7.6-inch folding display, while the Ultra should offer an 8-inch panel. However, the former may deliver a more tablet-like experience because of its wider, 4:3 aspect ratio. The device brings something new to the market with a passport-style design. Samsung may project it as a more productivity-focused foldable and position the Fold 8 Ultra as a mainstream smartphone.

Of course, the Korean firm has not officially confirmed any of these plans. But with regulatory certifications now starting to show up, the countdown to the official launch is underway. Samsung should unveil the Galaxy Z Fold 8 (Wide) and Fold 8 Ultra at its next Galaxy Unpacked event, which is widely rumored to take place on July 22. The Galaxy Z Flip 8 will accompany the two Folds.
