Galaxy Z Fold 8 (Wide) Appears in Dummy Unit — Our Best Look Yet at the New Design

Samsung’s upcoming wide-format foldable has quickly become one of the most talked-about smartphones of 2026. After years of iterative Fold upgrades, the company is preparing to introduce a different form factor that feels genuinely fresh. Now, ahead of its expected debut in late July, a leaked dummy-unit video is giving us an early real-world look at the Galaxy Z Fold 8 (Wide) and its much wider, passport-style design.
Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide dummy leak reveals Samsung’s new direction
Samsung was originally expected to launch this foldable as the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide. However, recent rumors suggest the device won’t carry the Wide branding and will simply be called the Fold 8. This also means Samsung will rename the Fold 7’s successor as the Fold 8 Ultra. While we wait for the confusion around branding to clear, a hands-on video showing what appears to be a rough dummy model of the Wide foldable has surfaced online.
Shared by reliable leaker Ice Universe, the leaked dummy highlights Samsung’s apparent shift toward a passport-style foldable design. Instead of the extremely tall outer display found on previous Galaxy Fold devices, the new model has a wider but shorter form factor. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 (Wide) looks more compact when folded and offers a mini tablet-like display experience unfolded.
The low-quality dummy model of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide has already appeared online.
Its build quality is far from the real device, so it should only be used as a rough reference. From what I know, Samsung’s internal testers are actually very fond of this device.

The wider cover screen could significantly improve daily usability. While it’s wider than a regular smartphone display, it shouldn’t feel unnatural. A wider screen is certainly better than tall, narrow ones, where the UI feels too cramped and uncomfortable to use. And of course, Samsung will optimize its One UI software to make better use of the wider inner and outer displays on the Galaxy Z Fold 8 (Wide).
The leaker specifically clarified that the dummy unit shown in the video is not representative of the final hardware quality or finished design. Instead, it mainly demonstrates Samsung’s new design direction and the expected proportions of the device. Some design elements could still change before launch, including bezels, thickness, camera layout, and even overall dimensions. Stay tuned for more leaks and rumors.
