A fresh leak from a reputable tipster has revealed two potentially significant developments for Samsung’s 2026 foldables. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 lineup is reportedly getting a major upgrade in crease reduction, matching some of the industry’s best competitors. The source also corroborates recent reports about Samsung’s branding strategy for the two Fold models.
Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Fold 8 Ultra may significantly reduce display crease
For months, rumors have pointed to Samsung launching two book-style foldables this year. Alongside a regular model succeeding last year’s Fold 7, the company has been working on a wider, passport-style device designed to offer a more tablet-like experience. They were expected to be called the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Fold 8 Wide, or simply the Fold Wide.
However, Samsung has now changed the naming strategy. The Wide model may now arrive as the Galaxy Z Fold 8, while the traditional model may be called the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra. This appears to be a strategic move to market the wider Galaxy Z Fold 8 as the standard model and the Ultra as the top-tier foldable with the best cameras and other extras.
This leak also brings encouraging news for foldable enthusiasts who have long criticized visible display creases. According to the Ice Universe, crease control on the Galaxy Z Fold 8 (Wide) and Fold 8 Ultra is “just as impressive” as that of the OPPO Find N6, which has one of the shallowest display creases in the industry. It appears Samsung has also achieved a substantial improvement this year.
A less visible crease would improve everything from media consumption to reading and multitasking. However, it’s unclear if the Galaxy Z Flip 8 gets the same improvement. The Flip model will debut alongside the two Folds sometime in July this year, possibly on July 22. The launch event could take place in London. Stay tuned for more leaks and rumors.
