Samsung continues to expand SmartThings, its global smart home platform. The platform now offers enhanced integration with IKEA’s new smart home product line, so you can incorporate them into daily life. It removes earlier technical barriers and opens the door for more people to create connected homes.

SmartThings connects IKEA devices without multiple hubs

Samsung now lets you connect 25 IKEA smart home devices effortlessly to the SmartThings platform. Some of these include smart bulbs, plugs, a scroll wheel remote, temperature and humidity sensors, air quality sensors, motion sensors, door sensors, and water leak sensors. They support Matter, a global smart home connectivity standard that improves interoperability among devices.

As a result, you can now connect IKEA devices directly to SmartThings without requiring multiple hubs. Earlier, you needed both an IKEA smart home hub and a SmartThings hub to connect the devices. This made the setup costly and confusing for some users.

The seamless integration offers a host of practical benefits to day-to-day life. For example, you can attach a door sensor to monitor activity at home, which comes in handy for checking on elderly family members. Likewise, you can install IKEA’s air quality sensors and temperature and humidity sensors on a wall. This will let you know the room conditions, such as temperature, humidity, carbon dioxide levels, and light intensity.

Furthermore, you can set automatic routines, which are useful for different circumstances. For example, the air conditioner can switch to dehumidifier mode when humidity rises. Samsung also highlights IKEA’s scroll wheel remote, which greatly improves the user experience. You can rotate the wheel to adjust the brightness and color temperature of connected lights.

“By connecting IKEA devices to SmartThings, even first-time smart home users can enjoy a familiar and easy connectivity experience without financial burden,” said Jaeyeon Jung, Executive Vice President of SmartThings, AI Platform Center at Samsung Electronics. “SmartThings will continue to expand its ecosystem through partnerships, enabling more consumers to enjoy seamless and convenient smart home experience within the SmartThings ecosystem regardless of brand or communication protocol.”
