Qualcomm appears to be gearing up for a bigger shake-up in its Snapdragon 8 series than expected. A fresh leak claims more chips in the pipeline in addition to the previously rumored Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 and 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro. If true, this could allow OEMs more options for powering future devices.

A leak suggests multiple premium Snapdragon mobile chips are in the works

Qualcomm usually launches a single flagship mobile chip each year, sometimes followed by a slightly overclocked version. However, this year the company is reportedly working on several Snapdragon 8-series chips, according to tipster Digital Chat Station.

We already know that Qualcomm may launch two 2nm chips: Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 and 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro. Now, new 3nm processors have come to light. The American firm is also developing the SM8850Q and the SM8845 Pro.

The SM8850Q could launch as a special Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5XX Edition. This may be a new variant of the current flagship chip, Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5. While details about the chip remain under wraps, it could sit between existing and next-gen Snapdragon platforms.

Meanwhile, the SM8845 Pro could debut as either the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 Pro or the Snapdragon 8 Gen 6. Note that the current standard Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 carries the model number SM8845. This suggests that SM8845 Pro is not a new generation of chips. It could come as an improved version with the same core features.

Samsung might use both the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 and 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro in its upcoming Galaxy S27 series. Normally, the Galaxy S27 Ultra should feature the Pro chip. There’s chatter that the Korean firm is preparing an Ultra-like model in a compact form factor, tentatively called the Galaxy S27 Pro. This phone could also be a likely candidate for the 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro.
