The Galaxy S22 series wasn’t expected to receive a software update this month after moving to Samsung’s quarterly update schedule. However, the company has surprised users by releasing a new update for its 2022 flagship lineup. Before you get too excited, though, it isn’t One UI 8.5. Instead, Samsung is rolling out the June 2026 security update to the Galaxy S22 trio, starting with carrier-locked units in the US.
Samsung pushes June update to the Galaxy S22 series
Earlier this year, Samsung moved the Galaxy S22 series from a monthly to a quarterly security update schedule. The change was expected, as the 2022 flagship lineup has completed four years on the market and entered its final year of software support. What came as a surprise, however, was Samsung’s decision to drop the Galaxy S22 series from the One UI 8.5 rollout.
In fact, the company had begun early development of One UI 8.5 for the lineup, but later halted the project. Now, the release of the June 2026 security update without new features pretty much seals the fate. The Galaxy S22 series will end its life on One UI 8.
That said, the latest update itself is a bit of a surprise. As mentioned above, Samsung has dropped the lineup to quarterly updates. The Galaxy S22 phones received the May security patch after skipping the April release. Technically, the next update should have been the August 2026 patch, but Samsung is here with the June one.
This month’s security patch is currently available for the carrier-locked Galaxy S22, Galaxy S22+, and Galaxy S22 Ultra units in the US. The new firmware build version is GZF3, though it could vary depending on the model, carrier, and region. As is often the case, the unlocked models should receive it in the coming days, followed by global units.
Or maybe Samsung will not roll out the June 2026 update for the Galaxy S26 series globally. The phones already received the May security patch worldwide, meaning the company isn’t obligated to release a June patch in every market. We will keep you posted as more information emerges.
