Samsung’s Upcoming Wide Fold Already Has Competition in the Market

Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy Z Wide Fold is already seeing competition, even before its debut. The company is working on a new foldable form factor that is shorter and wider than its current Fold models, with an official launch expected in July. However, rival brand Huawei has moved faster in this segment and introduced a similar device.
Huawei steals the spotlight in the wide fold smartphone segment
Huawei has revealed the design of its first Wide Fold smartphone, the Pura X Max, ahead of its official launch on April 20. The company has also started pre-orders in China with color options like black, white, blue, gold, and orange. As you can see in the images, the device features a wider inner display, allegedly measuring about 7.6 to 7.69 inches. The cover screen measures approximately 5.5 inches.
The Pura X Max packs a horizontal rear camera setup with three units. On the front, the phone features punch-hole cameras on both the cover (centered cutout) and the inner display (top right corner). The company could equip the device with its Kirin 9030 chipset to deliver solid performance.
Meanwhile, Samsung is readying its own wide fold smartphone, expected to launch alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Galaxy Z Flip 8 on July 22, 2026. Tentatively called the Galaxy Z Wide Fold, the phone has already surfaced in CAD renders, showing a dual rear camera setup and a punch-hole selfie unit.
The Galaxy Z Wide Fold could measure 123.9 × 161.4 × 4.9 mm (unfolded) and 123.9 × 82.2 × 9.8 mm (folded). We could see a 5.4-inch cover screen and a 7.6-inch inner display.
