Apple’s First iPhone Fold Could Pack Massive Battery; Your Move, Samsung

Apple is gearing up to debut its first foldable iPhone (tentatively called the iPhone Ultra), and the biggest talking point right now is its battery. A fresh leak suggests the phone could feature a massive battery (5800 mAh) that exceeds what rival Samsung’s foldables offer. If it pans out, this could put the Korean firm under pressure, leading to a stronger push to increase battery capacity in its future foldable devices.
Apple could raise the bar in foldable battery life with iPhone Ultra
YouTube channel fpt. (Front Page Tech) has recently published a video showcasing 3D renders of the iPhone Ultra with a bunch of early details. However, the most surprising part lies in the battery department. Apple could power its first iPhone Fold with a 5,800 mAh high-density battery. If you are a Samsung foldable fan, that raises eyebrows immediately.
Since the Galaxy Z Fold 3, each generation of Samsung’s Fold models has remained stuck around 4,400 mAh. Of course, the company has made advancements in chip optimization and software tweaks to improve efficiency within the same battery capacity, but that alone may no longer be enough. Its arch-rival Apple appears to be on its way to lead this area.
This year, Samsung is reportedly gearing up to give its next foldable lineup a battery boost (expected to debut in July 2026). The upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 8 could feature a 5,000 mAh battery, which is 600 mAh more than the predecessor. Of course, it would still be below the rumored battery capacity of the iPhone Ultra, but it marks a promising step forward.
Meanwhile, Samsung has reportedly another device in the pipeline to directly take on Apple. Tentatively dubbed the Galaxy Z Wide Fold, it could adopt the same 4:3 aspect ratio as the iPhone Ultra. However, in terms of battery, it is also said to feature a 5,000 mAh unit.
Anyway, the video also suggests that Apple’s foldable iPhone may feature a 0.15 mm display crease. The device could use the A20 Pro chip with 12GB of RAM and a C2 modem. It could measure roughly 9.5 mm (folded) and 4.5 mm (unfolded).
