Samsung Confirms Galaxy S25 Ultra Virtual Aperture Bug, Fix Coming Soon

Samsung has confirmed a bug affecting Virtual Aperture on the Galaxy S25 Ultra. It causes the background to appear uneven or messy instead of producing a smooth, natural-looking blur. The problem becomes more noticeable when shooting at 5x zoom. The company is currently investigating the issue and plans to fix it soon.
Virtual Aperture bug affects zoom shots on Galaxy S25 Ultra
Virtual Aperture enables more professional-level control over depth of field and background blur. Available via the Expert RAW app, the feature previously only supported the main 200MP camera. Samsung added support for 3x and 5x lenses starting with the Galaxy S26 Ultra. It rolled out this expanded support to the S25 Ultra as well.
However, some Galaxy S25 Ultra users have noticed that the feature isn’t working properly, particularly at 5x zoom. They recently took the issue to Samsung’s official community forums, and a moderator acknowledged it (via Mojotrick). Luckily, the company’s camera developers could reproduce the issue, confirming the bug. They are now investigating the problem to find its root cause.
The moderator reassured that a fix would be available with the One UI 8.5 update. Samsung is currently in beta testing the update for the Galaxy S25 series, with the stable rollout expected by the end of April in select regions, followed by a broader release in early May. The company has already confirmed that Virtual Aperture for 3x and 5x lenses won’t be available on the Galaxy S24 series or older models.
Meanwhile, if you’re experiencing this glitch on your Galaxy S25 Ultra, it’s worth reporting it through the Samsung Members app. User feedback plays a key role in helping Samsung prioritize and fine-tune fixes. We will let you know when we have more information about this issue.
