Samsung could post a sharp rise in Q2 2026 earnings thanks to continued strong demand for AI memory chips. The company’s operating profit is expected to rise by about 18 times year over year. At the same time, its foundry business has reportedly returned to profitability on a monthly basis after a long period of losses.
Samsung appears to be on track for another record-breaking quarter
According to an LSEG SmartEstimate (via Reuters), Samsung could report an operating profit of 86 trillion won ($56.35 billion) for Q2 2026. This is up from 4.7 trillion won in the same period last year. If achieved, it will be the company’s third consecutive quarter of record-breaking earnings.
Industry analysts say strong demand for high-bandwidth memory (HBM) is a key driver of growth. Moreover, the company also saw demand for conventional DRAM and NAND memory. These chips play a role in several AI applications that handle computing workloads.
Samsung may release its preliminary Q2 2026 earnings guidance this week and final results later this month.
Foundry business shows recovery
Meanwhile, Samsung reportedly saw solid performance in its foundry business. Korean media reports that the foundry division recorded a monthly profit in June 2026. This is its first profitable month since 2023. However, losses in April and May may keep the division in the red for Q2 2026. Now, the June turnaround has raised hope that the business could become profitable in Q3 2026.
The report says Samsung has improved profitability by increasing volumes of HBM base dies and improving yields. The company makes HBM4 base dies using its 4nm process, which played a key role in the turnaround. In February this year, it began mass production and commercial shipments of HBM4.
It will be interesting to see if Samsung Foundry can narrow the gap with its arch-rival and industry leader, TSMC, in the coming months. The Taiwanese firm led the global foundry space with a 72.3% share in Q1 2026.
