It seems Verizon customers are reporting problems with both home internet and mobile service across parts of the US East Coast today. Reports started climbing on Downdetector over the past couple of days, with the biggest spike appearing around 8:00 am EDT this morning.
Verizon service down as users report internet and mobile outages
Most complaints are related to home internet, although mobile users are also reporting service disruptions. The number of reports is still in the hundreds, but that’s often how these outages begin before they grow larger.
According to Downdetector (via PhoneArena), the biggest hotspots include New York City, Brooklyn, Boston, and Philadelphia. Users in Macomb, Utica, Washington, Detroit, and Indianapolis have also reported issues.

It’s still unclear what’s causing the disruption, and Verizon hasn’t shared an official explanation at the time of writing. As always, the number of reports on Downdetector only reflects users who actively report problems, so the actual number of affected customers could be higher.
This isn’t the first time Verizon has found itself in hot water recently. On June 10, a much larger outage knocked out cellular service across parts of West Texas and other southern areas. That incident generated more than 2,500 reports and lasted for over 12 hours.
Verizon later confirmed that the June outage was caused by a fiber cut, affecting cities including Amarillo, Odessa, San Angelo, and Midland. Compared to that incident, today’s outage appears to be smaller for now, but things can change quickly if more reports continue to come in.
If you’re on Verizon’s network and your internet or mobile service isn’t working as expected, you’re certainly not alone. We’ll update this story if Verizon confirms the cause of the outage or shares an estimated timeline for restoring affected services. Until then, it looks like some customers on the East Coast will have to sit tight.
