Samsung may have only just begun rolling out One UI 8.5, but work on the next iterations is already underway. Not only One UI 9, but the company is also reportedly actively working on One UI 9.5, based on Android 17. It plans to launch the Galaxy S27 with One UI 9.5 in early 2027.

Samsung has significantly improved its software game in recent years. Well, One UI 7 faced unprecedented delays, but it has been smooth sailing ever since. The company introduced One UI 8 with Android 16 alongside its 2025 foldables, and then One UI 8.5 (still based on Android 16) with its new Galaxy S flagships earlier this year. It is now rolling out the new version to existing devices.

Going forward, this could be Samsung’s fixed OS release pattern for Galaxy devices. Android 17 may first appear on new foldable devices launching later this year. The Galaxy Z Fold 8, Flip 8, and Wide Fold are all expected to ship with One UI 9. The devices could launch on July 22 at an Unpacked event in London.

Samsung may also run One UI 9 beta programs for several existing devices and roll out the update to all eligible models by the end of 2026. Then, it could introduce One UI 9.5 with the Galaxy S27 series early next year. And like this year, the company may launch beta programs for other devices around the S27 launch. One UI 9.5 could then roll out to other devices by mid-2027, and the cycle continues.

This would make Samsung’s software strategy more predictable and transparent. If the company works on reducing fragmentation and improving communication, it would elevate the overall rollout experience to a more refined, cohesive level.
