Samsung is making its Bespoke Family Hub refrigerators smarter with a major AI upgrade. The company will roll out the new software update to select refrigerators in the US starting today, May 11. The update brings improved food recognition, personalized daily features, and better Bixby voice control.

The update will be available on select Bespoke AI Refrigerator models with Family Hub 32-inch screens. “With this update to the Family Hub, Samsung is delivering a more intelligent kitchen experience that recognizes a wider variety of foods, understands natural conversation and adapts to the routines of each household,” said the company executive.

Samsung has expanded the refrigerator’s food recognition capabilities with Gemini-powered AI Vision. The updated AI Food Manager can now recognize and track more fresh produce and packaged foods with better accuracy. Thanks to Optical Character Recognition (OCR) technology, the system can also identify branded products across global markets. It also alerts users when frequently consumed food items are running low.

With the expanded Now Brief feature, the refrigerator can now offer a more personalized experience. The display now includes widgets such as Trending Recipes and FoodNote. The former shows popular recipe videos, while the latter displays the top-most frequently used ingredients from the past week, along with recipe recommendations.

Samsung has also brought support for Voice ID for personalized widget experiences. Once the refrigerator recognizes a user’s voice, it displays a bunch of tailored information. These include things like calendar events, birthday reminders, sleep pattern summaries, and daily activity dates.

The update also brings an advanced version of Bixby to support more natural conversations. Users can now speak more casually to regulate refrigerator functions. For example, asking Bixby to lower the temperature while loading groceries will automatically adjust the settings.

Samsung promises to roll out the update to more regions around the world in phases throughout 2026.
