Samsung Eyes More DRAM Price Hikes Amid Supply Crunch

Samsung is seeking another round of price increases for its DRAM chips. The company is reportedly negotiating with clients to raise the average selling price (ASP) of DRAM by up to 20%. The proposed increase is for the third quarter compared with the previous quarter.

Samsung eyes up to 20% DRAM price increase in Q3 2026

According to a report from ZDNet Korea, Samsung is negotiating with customers over third-quarter DRAM pricing. This comes as shortages continue across several memory products, including server DRAM, Low Power DRAM (LPDDR), and High Bandwidth Memory (HBM).

In the first quarter of 2026, Samsung’s DRAM ASP reportedly increased by around 90% from the previous quarter. The company raised 50% to 60% in the second quarter. It is now aiming for another increase of around 20% in the third quarter, though the final outcome will depend on successful negotiations with customers.

Global tech giants are investing heavily in AI infrastructure, driving robust demand for advanced memory chips. AI servers need large amounts of DRAM to process and store data. Likewise, HBM and LPDDR play a key role in AI applications. As a result, the memory supply has tightened in recent years. This gives memory makers, such as Samsung, greater pricing power.

Industry analysts expect the pace of DRAM price increases to slow in the coming quarters. However, they believe memory makers will continue to enjoy strong profitability into next year. The reason is that demand may remain higher than supply.

However, the trend is likely to put more pressure on the consumer electronics space, particularly smartphone and PC manufacturers. Higher memory prices could increase production costs for device makers. As a result, the OEMs will have to absorb the extra expense or pass it on to buyers through higher product prices.

It will be interesting to see how Samsung prices its next-gen foldable smartphones, which may include the Galaxy Z Fold 8, Z Fold 8 Ultra, and Z Flip 8. The phones may go official on July 22, 2026.
