Samsung recently rolled out the One UI 7.0 beta to the Galaxy Z Flip 6, introducing a host of changes. The update brings a refreshed UI, new features, and various other functional enhancements. Among these improvements is a small but significant addition that initially went unnoticed. One UI 7.0 makes it easier for Galaxy Z Flip 6 users to access more apps on the cover screen.
Samsung’s One UI 7.0 update for Flip foldables addresses a cover screen app limitation
Unlike Motorola’s Razr series, Samsung’s Flip phones do not let you access all apps on the cover screen. You are restricted to a handful of essential apps — the cover screen doesn’t offer the full One UI experience. However, there is a workaround, an official one. The MultiStar app, part of Samsung’s Good Lock customization suite, unlocks cover screen support for more apps.
The problem is that not everyone may be aware of this workaround. Samsung has fixed this issue with the One UI 7.0 update for the Galaxy Z Flip 6. As spotted by Android Central, the Labs menu where you can manage apps for the cover screen now features a prominent “Get MultiStar” button at the bottom. There’s also a brief notice telling users to download the Good Lock module to allow more apps on the cover screen.
The button directs users straight to the MultiStar app in the Galaxy Store, without having to navigate through the Good Lock app. This simplifies the process for users who want to expand their cover screen capabilities. More importantly, people who were previously unaware of this function now know their Flip supports more apps on the cover screen with MultiStar.
A full One UI experience is still lacking
While this is a step in the right direction, the overall cover screen experience remains limited. Users still can’t multitask on the smaller display, and certain functions require opening the phone. Additionally, apps need to be manually added to the Launcher for notifications to open them directly. As said earlier, Motorola allows app usage on its cover screen without extra steps.
Hopefully, Samsung plans to make the cover screen experience more seamless with subsequent updates, or at least with the Galaxy Z Flip 7. The upcoming Flip is expected to feature a larger cover screen, possibly around 3.6 inches, with a similar design as Motorola’s Razr lineup. It should go official sometime in July or August.
