Samsung has been painfully slow with its Android 15-based One UI 7.0 update. Midway through March, users are still waiting for the stable release. However, when it comes to monthly security patches, it’s a completely different story. Samsung continues to deliver those on time, updating dozens of models every month. The Galaxy Z Fold SE, Fold 3, and Flip 3 recently received the March security update.
March update rolls out to Galaxy Z Fold SE, Fold 3, and Flip 3
Over the past couple of weeks, Samsung has rolled out the March security update to over a dozen Galaxy smartphones, including all global foldable models launched in 2022, 2023, and 2024. The 2021 duo — Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Flip 3 — has now joined the party. Additionally, the update is available for the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition (SE), a slim foldable Samsung exclusively launched in Korea and China last year.
These three foldables are currently receiving the latest security patch in South Korea, Samsung’s home country. The Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Flip 3 are picking up the firmware build version JYBD, while it is AYBD for the SE model. The OTA update packages weigh under 400MB and only contain this month’s security fixes. Samsung’s March SMR (Security Maintenance Release) addresses over 50 vulnerabilities, including 11 critical flaws.
The latest update for the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Flip 3 also introduces a bootloader upgrade, which means stronger security policies. Users cannot roll back to older firmware builds after installing the new version. A few other Samsung foldables received similar bootloader updates this month. The Galaxy Z Fold SE’s March update doesn’t bring these security policy changes, though. It’s all about the latest SMR.
All of these devices are eligible for the One UI 7.0 update. Samsung says the rollout will begin in April, but there’s no specific release date yet. It remains to be seen if the Galaxy Z Fold SE, Fold 3, and Flip 3 receive Android 15 next month or if the company delays the release until May. Rest assured, the March security update should be available to users globally within the next few days.
