Google Rolls Out Wear OS 7 with Several Upgrades

Last month, Google announced Wear OS 7, its next-gen update for the smartwatch. The company is now rolling out the update to eligible Pixel Watch devices, introducing new features and improvements. Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy Watch models may run the new OS out of the box.

Wear OS 7 redefines the smartwatch experience

Wear OS 7 brings several meaningful upgrades to take the smartwatch experience to the next level. The software integrates Android Live Updates so you can track real-time info directly on your wrist. For example, a food delivery app shows your order’s arrival time on your watch screen. Likewise, you can stay up to date with the score of a big game without launching a separate app.

Google now lets you control your connected devices right from your wrist. If you take a photo using smart glasses, you can view it on your watch right away. Moreover, you can manage media across different devices from your wrist. For example, you can start playing music on your headphones and then switch it to a home speaker.

Google will also bring Gemini Intelligence features to select Wear OS 7 devices later this year. These AI tools will unlock a bunch of personalized, cutting-edge capabilities. You will be able to create custom widgets using natural language. The system supports multi-step automation for tasks like booking services or placing regular orders. Moreover, Gemini will use information from Google apps such as Gmail and Search to offer more helpful suggestions.

Apart from the new features, Wear OS 7 brings better efficiency. Google says the update can improve battery life by up to 10% compared to Wear OS 6. This comes from system-level optimizations that decrease power usage while preserving performance.

Samsung is reportedly gearing up to launch the Galaxy Watch 9 and Watch Ultra 2 on July 22 at an event in London. It would not be surprising if the next-gen Galaxy watches run Wear OS 7 from day one.
