Google is putting a lot of effort into making its AI assistant Gemini more helpful. The company is now working on a new AI agent codenamed “Remy” that could take actions on your behalf all day. Employees are already testing the new capabilities internally, suggesting that a launch may not be far off.

Google aims to transform Gemini into a true personal AI assistant

While Gemini already offers a ton of capabilities, including task assistance, the “Remy” agent could take things even further. Instead of only responding when you ask something, the new agent could do things on your behalf. According to a report from Business Insider, Google has made Remy available in a staff-only version of its Gemini app.

The company described Remy as a 24/7 personal agent for work, school, and daily life. The AI agent can deeply integrate with other Google services, likely allowing it to manage tasks efficiently. “It elevates the Gemini app into a true assistant that can take actions on your behalf — not just answer questions or generate content,” reads a description of the agent.

Moreover, Remy can monitor what matters to you while proactively managing difficult tasks. The AI agent also learns personal preferences over time, meaning it becomes smarter the longer you use it. The idea looks similar to what OpenClaw, an open-source proactive personal AI agent, can offer. This agent can handle tasks such as replying to messages and performing research on your behalf.

As of now, it is unclear when Google will launch Remy to the public. Since employees are already testing the AI agent, we can assume development is progressing fast. The company may present its latest AI advancements during the upcoming Google I/O (May 19-20). Hopefully, we will hear more about Remy as well.

Meanwhile, Google is also gearing up to launch an AI Ultra Lite plan. The new plan could sit between the current AI Pro and AI Ultra tiers. Whether Remy will become part of those paid plans or remain free is unclear.
