Google is already in the middle of replacing Google Assistant with Gemini across Android devices. Google plans to continue this transition through 2026 as it fully shifts from Google Assistant to Google Gemini. Moreover, Google is continuing to reshape Gemini. This time, Google is going to bring a better experience with Gemini. One of the latest updates is the introduction of new Gemini voice options.

Gemini’s current voices might disappear soon

Android Authority spotted this in a new APK teardown, suggesting that Google may remove Gemini’s current voice options entirely. This hints at a bigger change coming soon. According to APK teardown findings, Google is preparing to remove the existing “legacy” voice options in Gemini.

Code strings found in the latest Google app APK teardown clearly mention:

  • “Legacy voices are going away.”
  • “Gemini’s previous voices are gone so that you won’t see them anymore.”

Right now, Gemini offers multiple voices, including different tones and accents. However, it looks like all of that could be wiped out soon. But here’s the interesting part. There’s no clear mention of what replaces them, at least not yet.

But realistically, Google isn’t removing voices without a plan. The most likely scenario is a more advanced, accurate, and completely new voice system. There could also be customizable voices in the feature based on accent, tone, and many more. In addition, there’s a good chance Google might reveal more at Google I/O 2026. That event lines up with the timing of these changes.

Still a work in progress

Don’t expect it immediately. As always with APK teardowns, nothing here is official. Google hasn’t confirmed anything yet, so there’s no release timeline, and plans could still change or get scrapped entirely, but the messaging here is pretty clear. Google is preparing to move on from Gemini’s current voices.

Some of these voices already sound a bit off. The tone and accent don’t always feel natural. This is just like what happened with Google Home a while ago, which might explain why Google is reworking them. But still, improved voice styles for Gemini are a welcome change, especially for Gemini Live conversations.
