Best In-Flight Wi-Fi Airlines Ranked in New Ookla Report

In-flight Wi-Fi is improving fast, and a new report from Ookla shows just how big the gap has become between airlines. Based on Speedtest Intelligence data from the second half of 2025, the study looks at both speed and reliability. So, let’s take a look at the results and which airline offers the best in-flight Wi-Fi.
Ookla report shows Starlink-powered airlines dominating in-flight Wi-Fi
Ookla found that consistency is now dominated by Starlink-backed airlines. airBaltic ranked first with 98.3% of tests meeting a usable speed threshold, followed by WestJet and Hawaiian Airlines. Air France also crossed the 90% mark. These airlines consistently delivered download speeds of at least 25 Mbps in the vast majority of tests.

There’s still a second tier of solid performers. Qatar Airways, Air Canada, and Alaska Airlines all posted respectable consistency scores, though they didn’t quite reach the top group. Meanwhile, larger global carriers like United and Emirates landed further behind in reliability, despite still managing more than half of tests above baseline broadband speeds.
Speed is where the gap becomes even more obvious. Eight airlines recorded median download speeds above 100 Mbps, and every one of them relied on Starlink. United led with a median of nearly 320 Mbps on Starlink connections, while Emirates, airBaltic, and Alaska Airlines also crossed the 300 Mbps mark under similar conditions.
Ookla notes that Starlink now accounts for nearly half of all in-flight Speedtest samples, a remarkable rise in just two years. Even its slowest users outperformed average speeds on competing satellite networks. With Amazon preparing its own LEO offering, the competitive landscape could shift, but for now, Starlink is setting the pace for in-flight connectivity.
