Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra Clears BIS Certification Ahead of Launch

Samsung has been busy clearing regulatory hurdles surrounding its next-gen Galaxy foldable smartphones. We can now confirm that the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra has now obtained certification from India’s Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS). This development suggests that the device’s launch is just around the corner.

Samsung has reportedly shaken up its naming strategy for its foldable lineup due to the entry of a wider model. The successor to the Galaxy Z Fold 7 may come with the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra moniker. On the other hand, the company may call the wider model Galaxy Z Fold 8. Simply put, the Ultra may be the usual traditional book-style foldable. Meanwhile, the next-gen clamshell model will likely use the Galaxy Z Flip 8 branding.
Samsung has recently received BIS approval for a Galaxy foldable with model number SM-F976B. The model in question is the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra (Bluetooth SIG certification previously confirmed the model’s moniker). The Galaxy Z Fold 8 (Wide) and Z Flip 8 should also appear on India’s certification platform in the coming weeks. While BIS listings did not reveal any specs, they do indicate that the launch is on track.
It is worth mentioning that a few weeks ago, BIS certified the batteries for all the upcoming foldables. Now, the actual devices have begun appearing on the certification platform, starting with the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra. Reports suggest they could go official at an event in London on July 22.
Speaking of some key upgrades, Samsung could equip the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra with a 5,000 mAh battery. This is 600 mAh higher than last year’s Galaxy Z Fold 7. In terms of charging speed, the phone may support 45W fast charging, up from 25W on the previous generation, which should greatly improve charging times.
