Recent rumors have suggested that Samsung may rename its upcoming flagship foldable. A certification listing has now confirmed the change, with the Galaxy Z Fold 8 officially set to arrive as the Fold 8 Ultra instead. A separate leak has also revealed several key specifications, including the device’s weight, battery capacity, and charging speed.

Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra name surfaces in certification

The latest evidence comes from a Bluetooth SIG certification spotted by Sumahodigest. The listing clearly mentions the brand name “Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra” against the model number SM-F976 (plus a few regional variants). These model numbers correspond to the upcoming Samsung foldable set to succeed last year’s Fold 7.

Normally, the device should have been called the Galaxy Z Fold 8. However, Samsung is launching two Fold models this year. The other one offers a wider form factor and is expected to be slightly cheaper. As such, the company decided to call it the Fold 8 and rebrand the main flagship as the Fold 8 Ultra. We have heard about this rebranding before, and the latest sighting basically confirms it.

In a separate leak, tipster Ice Universe revealed some key specs as well. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra will reportedly retain the same 215 grams weight as the Fold 7. Earlier leaks suggested a slight weight reduction to around 210 grams.

However, Samsung still deserves credit for making the Fold 8 Ultra fairly lightweight while increasing battery capacity from 4,400mAh to 5,000mAh. The company has also managed to make the device even thinner, reducing unfolded thickness to just 4.1mm. The rest of the dimensions, display sizes, design language, and footprint are expected to remain largely unchanged.

Meanwhile, Samsung is upgrading charging speeds from 25W to 45W, finally bringing its flagship foldable in line with many of its premium Galaxy smartphones. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 (Wide) and Fold 8 Ultra should go official in late July, with leaks pointing to a July 22 launch. Stay tuned.
