Galaxy Z Flip 8 Could Bring Minor Changes, Slight Price Hike

Samsung’s next-gen clamshell foldable, the Galaxy Z Flip 8, appears to be shaping up as a subtle upgrade rather than a big leap. A fresh leak suggests the device could be slightly lighter and a bit wider than its predecessor. In addition, the company is reportedly considering a slight price increase to balance production costs.

Samsung’s upcoming clamshell foldable could be wider and lighter

According to tipster Lanzuk, the Galaxy Z Flip 8 will feature a slight increase in horizontal length over its predecessor, the Galaxy Z Flip 7. While they did not share the dimension, an earlier report suggests the width could increase from 75.2 mm to 75.4 mm. This should make the device slightly wider in both its folded and unfolded states.

The tipster further said Samsung could employ a new hinge design in the Galaxy Z Flip 8. As a result, the device could feature a slightly lighter build, weighing around 180 g (down from 188 g on the Z Flip 7). Moreover, we could see a reduction in the display crease’s visibility, which would definitely be a welcome upgrade.

However, Samsung could retain much of the hardware familiar. This may include a 4,300 mAh battery with support for 25W charging. Likewise, the camera modules are expected to remain unchanged. Other components, such as the vibration motor, speakers, and external display, may also stay the same.

As for pricing, the tipster noted that “we are currently preparing for a slight price increase.” This suggests the Galaxy Z Flip 8 may cost a bit more than its predecessor. Ongoing cost pressures from the memory crunch are likely influencing Samsung’s decision. However, a dramatic price increase seems unlikely, as the company could try to keep the device competitive in the crowded foldable smartphone space.
