Samsung’s flagship tablets may finally get a modern design upgrade that Galaxy phones have featured for years. Newly discovered animations in One UI 9 suggest the upcoming Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra could ditch the display notch in favor of a punch-hole camera cutout. If accurate, the change would mark a significant redesign for premium Galaxy tablets.
One UI 9 hints at a modern design upgrade for Samsung Galaxy tablets
The animations, first spotted by SamMobile, reference an unreleased Galaxy tablet and show it rotating between landscape and portrait orientations. While the animations themselves don’t reveal much about the device, they clearly depict a tablet with a punch-hole cutout for the selfie camera. One of them has the camera cutout on the shorter side of the device, while the other has it on the longer side.
Either way, these animations suggest Samsung plans to upgrade its tablets with a punch-hole display in the future. While it has used this modern camera design on Galaxy smartphones for several years, including some budget models, Galaxy tablets still rely on bezels or notches to house the front-facing camera. If the One UI 9 assets are anything to go by, that may change soon.
Interestingly, these animations are reportedly absent from One UI 8.5 and only appear in the latest One UI 9 firmware. That suggests the files may not just be placeholders but a representation of actual products Samsung has in development. The most likely candidate to debut this new tablet design is the Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra. The Tab S11 Ultra has a notch along the longer side for its front-facing camera.
All this said, nothing is set in stone yet. Samsung may still drop the idea and go with the current design language for the Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra. But its flagship tablets are surely due for a design upgrade, and a punch-hole display may help elevate their look. Expect more leaks in the coming months as the company prepares to unveil the new lineup later this year.
