Samsung’s next-gen mobile chip, the Exynos 2700, is on track to power the upcoming Galaxy S27 series. The chip’s development is going smoothly, with the intention to feature in the 2027 flagship smartphones. This is part of the company’s ambition to boost its own SoC business while reducing dependence on external suppliers.

Samsung is developing its Exynos 2700 without any setbacks

Park Yong-in, President and Head of Samsung Electronics’ System LSI Business Unit, recently talked about the progress of Exynos 2700. “We are developing the Exynos 2700 without any setbacks, aiming for its inclusion in flagship models,” said the executive.

An earlier report suggested that Samsung may begin production of the Exynos 2700 in the second half of the year. Now it looks like the company is moving toward this stage as development progresses steadily. The formal announcement of the chip may happen toward the end of this year.

While Samsung’s System LSI unit intends to design the Exynos 2700 chip for the Galaxy S27 series, the MX (Mobile eXperience) unit will likely take the final call. The MX unit may assess performance and cost before finalizing chip selection. It usually adopts a dual-chip strategy for the Galaxy S lineup — the SoC integration for the base and Plus models depends on the region. Some markets get Snapdragon-powered devices, while others get Exynos-based units.

If the same strategy continues, we may get the Galaxy S27 and S27+ with the upcoming Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 (Pro/standard) or Exynos 2700. There are also chatters that Exynos usage could reach 50% of the Galaxy S27 lineup, up from roughly 25% on Galaxy S26 models.

However, industry watchers remain doubtful about this target due to strong competition from Qualcomm, which may offer better pricing to the MX unit. Meanwhile, Samsung may also use the latest Exynos 2600, which powers some Galaxy S26 models, in the Galaxy Z Flip 8 in select regions.
