Galaxy Z Flip 8 Tipped for Exynos and Snapdragon Split

Samsung appears to be planning a major shake-up in its chip strategy for the upcoming Galaxy Z Flip 8. The next-gen clamshell phone could adopt a regional dual-chip approach, similar to the Galaxy S series. If this pans out, some regions could get an Exynos-powered variant, while others may get a Snapdragon-powered model.

Samsung may shake up Galaxy Z Flip 8’s chip strategy

Last year, a report suggested that Samsung could use its latest Exynos 2600 chip on the Galaxy Z Flip 8 globally. However, a fresh leak claims the company may include Snapdragon in the mix, depending on the region. While the leak does not mention the exact Snapdragon model, it is expected to be the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5.

To recall, Samsung has used Snapdragon chips in the Galaxy Z Flip lineup since its launch in 2020, up to the Galaxy Z Flip 6. However, it shifted to the in-house chip (Exynos 2500) for the Galaxy Z Flip 7 (globally) in 2025. Now, with the Galaxy Z Flip 8, the company may continue using the Exynos chip, but alongside the Snapdragon processor.

Samsung normally uses a dual-chip strategy in its Galaxy S flagship lineup (excluding the Ultra model). For example, the Galaxy S26 and S26+ run on Exynos 2600 or Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, depending on the market.

If the company follows the same chip split strategy as the S26 lineup, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5-powered Z Flip 8 should arrive in the United States, Canada, China, and Japan. On the other hand, buyers in markets such as India, Europe, and South Korea should get the Exynos-2600-powered Flip 8.

Speaking about the reason behind this shift, leaks point to cost concerns within Samsung’s MX division. The Exynos 2600 is reportedly expensive to make. In addition, Qualcomm recently offered the Korean firm favorable pricing. As the launch approaches (expected July 22), more details should surface in the coming weeks.
