Samsung pushed the boundaries of smartphone photography with the Galaxy S25 series, particularly the Ultra model. It introduces innovative features and enhancements to redefine the mobile camera experience. After showing off the key improvements at Unpacked, the company recently detailed the new camera features of the Galaxy S25 Ultra.
Galaxy S25 Ultra: New camera features and enhancements
The Galaxy S25 Ultra features an upgraded 50MP ultrawide camera, delivering four times higher resolution for more detailed images (the S24 Ultra has a 12MP ultrawide camera. The new lens also excels in speed, allowing you to capture moving objects with precision — even at high velocities. Additionally, you can now capture 8K videos at 30fps (frames per second) with the ultrawide camera.
While the rest of the sensors remain unchanged — Galaxy S25 and S25+ see no camera hardware upgrade — Samsung improved software processing and introduced new features to enhance the image quality. For professionals and enthusiasts, the Expert RAW app adds DSLR-inspired virtual aperture functionality. You can now adjust the depth of field in 22 steps, ranging from F1.4 to F16, for precise control over focus and background blur. Samsung also added two new Digital ND filter strengths for enhanced long-exposure shots.
Creators seeking professional post-production flexibility will also love how the Galaxy S25 Ultra can record videos in Log format. Combined with Samsung’s downloadable 3D LUTs, users can easily achieve stunning color correction and dynamic range enhancements in editing software like DaVinci Resolve or Adobe Premiere Pro. The phone also offers edit recommendations and professional shooting techniques.
Speaking of editing, you can now remove unwanted noise from videos with AI-powered Audio Eraser. The built-in video editor can identify and isolate up to six audio types, including wind and background noise. These sounds can be lowered to produce crisper audio. Generative Edit, which uses AI to move or remove objects in photos, now works locally on the device without requiring cloud processing.
Enhanced zoom videos and motion photos
Additionally, the Galaxy S25 Ultra supports Hybrid Log Gamma (HLG) for lifelike video quality and ensures compatibility across various displays. 10-bit HDR with high dynamic range is available as standard for more realistic images. Elsewhere, Samsung improved the parallax between lenses when you zoom in or out while recording videos. You will get a more stable video even when the lenses are switched back and forth between 1x, 3x, and 5x cameras.
The Zoom Rocker UI comes to the standard video mode (previously limited to Pro Video), allowing for smooth, constant-speed zoom transitions while recording. Samsung has also added six new film-style filters — such as Soft, Intense, and Warm — to the Galaxy S25 Ultra, making it easier to achieve professional-grade aesthetics. Users can further customize filters with 50 levels of fine adjustments for contrast, saturation, and color temperature or create custom filters.
Motion photos give you an option to save 3 seconds of video alongside the default option of 1.5 seconds. Once the footage is captured, you can join multiple motion photos together. AI-powered Best Face ensures everyone in the frame has their eyes open and is looking their best. It analyzes multiple frames and swaps faces if necessary to give you the best result. Single Tak can save up to five seconds of footage before the recording actually starts.
Last but not least, the Gallery app now offers better search capabilities, recognizing objects, events, and categories to help you locate specific photos quickly with natural language queries. The Galaxy S25 series also introduces enhanced Photo Remaster, Auto Crop Videos, Portrait Studio, and Instant Slo-mo. Some of these enhancements should roll out to older models, including the Galaxy S24 series, either with the stable One Ui 7.0 update or One UI 7.1.
