Does your Galaxy Watch not measure ECG data just because you don’t use a Samsung phone or live in an unsupported region? Well, that’s been a common frustration for several years, even though the required hardware is baked into the smartwatch. Thankfully, a new third-party app called GeminiMan Wellness Companion offers a workaround for this limitation.

GeminiMan Wellness Companion enables ECG tracking on Galaxy Watch

Samsung’s split health ecosystem usually confuses new Galaxy Watch users. While Samsung Health works on Android phones (regardless of brand), the Samsung Health Monitor is only available on Galaxy smartphones. The latter offers features like ECG, blood pressure monitoring, and sleep apnea detection. On top of that, some features could also see restrictions depending on the region. This makes access inconsistent even though you own compatible devices.

Developer Dante63 previously created a patched version of Samsung Health Monitor to make some features work in unsupported regions. They have now released the GeminiMan Wellness Companion app on the Google Play Store, though it is still in open beta. As of now, it only supports ECG, but the developer plans to add more features in the future.

Once you install the app, you will be able to record ECG readings from your Galaxy Watch without depending on Samsung Health Monitor. The app also uses smart on-device AI to help interpret supported readings in an easy way, making it straightforward to notice patterns over time. The good thing is that your data stays on your device, with no accounts, cloud storage, or analytics trackers.

Thanks to the ability to add custom notes during each ECG recording, you can write your own observations that may influence heart activity. On the other hand, Samsung Health Monitor offers only a limited number of preset symptom options (alongside “Other”), which may limit your ability to track your past condition in detail.

Furthermore, the app lets you create multiple profiles, so other family members can use the same watch without mixing health records. In the future, we could get blood pressure readings, blood oxygen levels, heart rate variability, sleep tracking, skin temperature, and more.
