If the rumors hold true, Samsung is set to elevate its foldable game over the next few years. The company reportedly plans to launch four foldable smartphones in 2025 — two Fold and two Flip models — and follow up with a tri-fold model. Initially expected to debut next year, Samsung’s tri-fold smartphone may have been delayed until 2026. Apple may also launch a foldable in 2026.
Samsung may launch its first tri-fold foldable in early 2026
According to a recent report by Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC), the foldable smartphone market may face stagnation in the coming year. Sales have already begun to decline and are projected to continue slipping through 2025. In response, several companies are scaling back production and canceling some models. DSCC forecasts a drop in new foldable model launches, with only 32 expected to ship in 2025, compared to 41 in 2024.
However, Samsung remains undeterred from this and plans to expand its foldable portfolio next year. DSCC CEO Ross Young recently confirmed that the Korean firm will launch the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7 with big upgrades. Additionally, it is readying an affordable Flip and could introduce a second-gen Fold SE in 2025. This isn’t it, though. Samsung also has a tri-fold smartphone in the pipeline.
The Korean media recently said the company is on track with its development, hinting at a 2025 launch. However, Young suggests it could be delayed until early 2026. The display industry veteran didn’t share additional information about the product, so it’s unclear whether Samsung faces setbacks or if the device was always planned for a 2026 release.
The DSCC report also confirmed Apple’s foldable plans. The iPhone maker looks to enter the market with a “Fold” model in the second half of 2026. Considering Apple’s dominance in the flagship smartphone market, it could help the foldable market return to growth. In fact, DSCC estimates a 30% growth in foldable shipments in 2026. Alongside Samsung, at least one more company might launch a tri-fold model in 2026. Exciting times are ahead for foldable enthusiasts.
