Since the past few weeks, Google Messages has been dealing with a few issues, such as media not loading. Many users have complained about blurry pictures, slow downloads, and failed messages in RCS chats, but thankfully, Google Messages has acknowledged these issues.
Google Messages is finally fixing media files issues after weeks of complaints
In a recent community post (via 9to5Google), a Google community manager affirmed that they have been “actively working on this.” They also said that the company has rolled out updates to improve how media is received. The goal is to make media files load faster and more reliably. However, Google admitted that some issues might still remain since they are complex to fix.
It’s unclear whether these updates are happening behind the scenes on Google’s servers or if they will come through a Play Store update. Either way, users should start noticing improvements. Google is also asking anyone still experiencing problems to send feedback so they can continue making the app better.
Google also posted the same community update in r/GoogleMessages. One user seemingly confirmed (via The Verge) that they have “noticed a difference” while receiving media on Google Messages.
Despite being the default messaging app on many Android phones, Google Messages has had its share of problems. Many people have reported that images take too long to load or fail to send entirely. While Google’s latest updates should help, it’s unclear whether they will fully resolve the issue. Regardless, it’s best to keep checking for updates on the Play Store.
Which reminds me of — what do you use on your Galaxy, Google Messages or Samsung Messages? Both now support RCS. And yes, Samsung Messages briefly retired but is back up and running again. Though a Samsung spokesperson shared with us that there may be “certain [RCS] feature limitatons” with Samsung Messages.
