It looks like Samsung has a new XR headset in the pipeline that could arrive as a more affordable option than its first-gen model. A fresh patent suggests the company is exploring a more compact mixed-reality headset, tentatively dubbed Galaxy XR Lite. While nothing is confirmed, we now have an idea of what the Korean firm is cooking in the extended reality space.

Samsung patent hints at compact Galaxy XR Lite headset

In October 2025, Samsung stepped into next-generation mixed reality hardware with the Galaxy XR headset. Built on the Android XR platform, the wearable delivers immersive experiences through multimodal AI integration. It falls into the premium-class XR headset category, competing with devices like the Apple Vision Pro.

While the Galaxy XR is significantly cheaper than the Apple Vision Pro, it still bears a premium price tag. This may have limited its accessibility to a wider audience. Samsung now appears to be planning a more affordable alternative, with industry watchers referring to it as the Galaxy XR Lite.

A new patent filing (identified as US 2026/0118685 A1) has come to light, pointing to a more compact Samsung XR headset. In addition, the document also attached diagrams and some key technical details. The headset could feature an active IPD adjustment system, which uses motors to automatically align the lenses with your eyes.

Speaking of sensor setup, the device could boast two VST cameras, four tracking cameras, and a central depth sensor. Thanks to its vertical motor layout, it is said to maintain a slim, lightweight build.

We can expect the Galaxy XR Lite to sit between the upcoming Galaxy Glasses and the premium Galaxy XR. Simply put, it could offer an advanced mixed-reality experience at a relatively affordable price.

Note that the existence of this new XR headset is based on a patent filing. It may or may not turn into a real product in the future. We’ll let you know if new developments emerge in the coming months.
