Google is rolling out a new update for Partner Sharing in Google Photos. This update restores a previously removed feature based on user feedback. Users can now once again share screenshots and downloaded images using Partner Sharing in Google Photos. The company had quietly removed this ability in November last year, but users made it restore the function.
Google Photos is restoring a convenient feature to Partner Sharing
Last November, Google quietly updated Partner Sharing to stop sharing images from “other apps.” This meant photos that were downloaded, received via WhatsApp, or taken as screenshots wouldn’t be shared with a linked partner account. The change wasn’t widely announced, and users only found out through a support page update. Many found the limitation frustrating, as it meant important images, like saved documents or shared family photos, wouldn’t be included in automatic sharing.
Now, Google is bringing back the option to include these images, 9to5Google reports. However, you need to manually enable a toggle for it. By default, screenshots and saved photos from other apps still won’t be shared. Google explained, “Now, based on your feedback, we’re rolling out a new setting on Android to give you more control over partner sharing.”
Turning on the setting will automatically share backed-up images from other apps, including social media and messaging apps, with linked partner accounts. The update also works retroactively, meaning previously backed-up images will be shared or unshared based on your settings.
Google initially changed Partner Sharing to “reduce clutter and help keep your partner’s feed more focused.” However, after users complained, the company decided to provide a solution that gives people more control. The update is rolling out now. So users who want to share all their images — including screenshots and saved photos — should check their Google Photos settings.
