Here’s How Google Messages Triggers Satellite Connectivity on Galaxy Phones

Samsung Galaxy phones support a bunch of satellite-ready apps, including Google Messages. A Galaxy S26 Ultra was recently seen triggering a satellite connection prompt on the default messaging app. This appeared when the device was in an area with no mobile network coverage.

For the uninitiated, Samsung now pre-installs Google Messages as the default texting platform on its Galaxy devices. The company has also confirmed plans to discontinue Samsung Messages in July 2026, encouraging users to switch to Google Messages. This move could help users get a better texting experience, such as RCS and satellite connectivity.

When a Galaxy S26 Ultra user entered an area with no network coverage, Google Messages displayed a dialog prompt. The prompt reads: “If you continue, your mobile network, Bluetooth, and Wi-Fi will turn off and automatically turn back on when you end the satellite session.” Accepting it automatically creates a satellite communication entry point within the app.

This is quite handy as you do not need to navigate through the settings page to turn on satellite connectivity. The best thing is that it even guides you to find the best position for a stronger signal using on-screen directions. If you do not want to continue, you can simply tap the End button to disconnect from the satellite session.

Of course, your carrier must also offer satellite connectivity for this feature to work. Samsung continues to collaborate with global telecom operators to bring satellite communication support across its Galaxy lineup. For example, if you live in the US, you can use T-Mobile’s T-Satellite, which includes T911, text, and data services.

Basically, satellite connectivity is part of a bigger ecosystem involving a mobile phone, an app, and a carrier. Some popular apps that Samsung supports for satellite communication include WhatsApp, X, and Messenger.
