Google’s Gemini serves as a helpful AI companion for most day-to-day tasks. The company is now expanding its capabilities even further, letting you create and download complete files within the chat. This feature should hit all eligible user accounts around the world in the coming days.
You can now use the built-in file creation feature in Gemini
Gemini helps users with writing, planning, and learning, along with a bunch of productivity tasks, through simple conversation. The assistant can summarize information, answer questions, and support creative work. It now goes above producing plain text responses. You can request full documents and receive downloadable, ready-to-share files.
“With just a prompt, Gemini can now create PDFs, Microsoft Word and Excel, Google Docs, Sheets, Slides and more directly in your chat, meaning you can quickly move from a brainstorm to a complete file without ever leaving the Gemini app,” the company wrote in a blog post. This removes the need to copy text, paste it into other apps, and manually reformat it.
The feature supports several formats such as .pdf, .docx, .xlsx, .csv, LaTeX, Plain Text (TXT), Rich Text Format (RTF) and Markdown (MD). Moreover, it works with Google Workspace formats like Docs, Sheets, and Slides. This comes in handy for both regular users and professionals who deal with different types of documents.
For example, you can export a budget proposal as a Microsoft Excel (.xlsx) file so that all your numbers and calculations remain organized in a spreadsheet. If you have long notes from a collaboration, you can merge them into a single document, such as a one-page PDF or a .docx file.
You can download the finished file (for most formats) to your device. Moreover, if you want to save it online for easier access later, you can export it to Google Drive. For power users, Gemini is reportedly working to show a real-time quota tracking dashboard near the account switcher.
