New Leak Reveals Impressively Low Weight for Galaxy Z Fold 8 (Wide)

Samsung has spent the past few years making its smartphones thinner and lighter, prioritizing slimmer designs over larger batteries. That trend may continue with the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 8 (Wide). A well-known tipster has now revealed the foldable’s “confirmed” weight, and the number is surprisingly low for a device of its size.

Galaxy Z Fold 8 (Wide) could be pretty lightweight for its size
According to Ice Universe, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 (Wide) will weigh just 201 grams. If true, it will be the lightest book-style foldable Samsung has ever produced. Last year’s Fold 7 weighs 215 grams, while the Fold 8 Ultra, which will succeed the Fold 7 and debut alongside the Wide model later this year, is expected to weigh around 210 grams.
What’s particularly impressive is that Samsung has achieved this lower weight on a device with a fairly large footprint. The Fold 8 (Wide) is rumored to measure 123.9 x 161.4 x 4.3mm when unfolded and 123.9 x 82.2 x 9.8mm when folded. It sports a wider, 7.6-inch display on the inside, featuring a tablet-like 4:3 aspect ratio. The cover screen allegedly measures 5.4 inches diagonally.
Huawei’s Pura X Max, which offers a similar “wide” form factor, is much heavier at 229 grams. Apple’s upcoming foldable is also expected to weigh more than the Fold 8 (Wide). Foldable devices are often used one-handed while folded and held for extended periods when reading, gaming, or watching videos. Every gram matters when the device spends hours in a user’s hand or pocket.
Of course, weight is only one part of the equation. Samsung will still need to deliver meaningful upgrades in areas such as battery life, durability, cameras, and performance. The company is positioning the Galaxy Z Fold 8 (Wide) as a productivity-focused foldable. It remains to be seen whether the device lives up to expectations. The official launch looks set for July 22, so expect more leaks soon.
