Galaxy Z Fold 5, Flip 5 Grab September 2024 Update Globally

Samsung has started pushing the September 2024 security update to the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Flip 5 globally. The latest security patch follows the big One UI 6.1.1 update for the 2023 foldable duo. The company has already rolled out this month’s security fixes to the Galaxy Z Fold 6, Flip 6, Galaxy S24, Galaxy S23, and dozens of other Galaxy phones and tablets.

September security update rolls out for the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Flip 5

Like every other monthly security patch, aka SMR (Security Maintenance Release), Samsung’s September 2024 SMR addresses various security issues in Google’s version of Android OS and the custom Galaxy software. The latest release contains 67 vulnerability patches, at least one of which is a critical flaw. The Korean firm has been pushing it to eligible Galaxy devices since early this month.

The Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Flip 5 received the new security patch with the One UI 6.1.1 update in early September. However, Samsung didn’t bundle it with the big feature release for the tablets elsewhere. It is now rolling out a separate update to address the vulnerabilities. The foldables are picking the latest release widely in the US, Europe, India, and several other markets.

In the US, the Galaxy Z Fold 5’s September update comes with the firmware build numbers F946USQS4DXI3 (carrier-locked) and F946U1UES4DXI3 (unlocked). The global version of the phone (sold in most other markets) is receiving the update with the build number F946BXXS3DXI3. Those for the Galaxy Z Flip 6 are F731USQS4DXI3, F731U1UES4DXI3, and F731BXXS3DXI3, respectively.

Regardless of the build number and update size, Samsung’s 2023 foldables are picking up nothing more than this month’s security fixes. It’s expected as they are coming fresh from the One UI 6.1.1 update with tons of goodies. The Korean firm is now readying One UI 7.0 with Android 15. Beta testing may begin in October, followed by a stable release in November or December.
