Samsung may not have any major display upgrades planned for the Galaxy S27. The company has reportedly finalized the phone’s display specs and decided to retain the same panel technology and OLED materials used in its predecessor. The move is reportedly driven by rising component costs and broader lineup considerations. The report also adds that BOE remains in contention to supply the S27’s display.

Galaxy S27 may not bring any major display upgrades

Newer OLED materials can improve display brightness, power efficiency, longevity, and color accuracy, but they also tend to increase manufacturing costs. Considering the current market situation, Samsung appears to have decided that the benefits do not outweigh the additional expense. As such, the Galaxy S27 may sport pretty much the same display as its predecessor, at least in terms of panel technology and materials.

This does not necessarily mean the Galaxy S27’s screen, though. Samsung’s flagship displays are already among the best in the smartphone industry, and retaining the current material set will mean an identical display experience to that of the Galaxy S26. Moreover, Samsung could improve brightness and efficiency through other means.

The report adds that Samsung may source the Galaxy S27’s display from the Chinese firm BOE instead of its in-house display arm. BOE reportedly supplies the screen cheaper than Samsung Display. Some observers believe retaining the existing display technology could make it easier for the Chinese firm to produce the screen. Samsung’s mobile chief, TM Roh, is rumored to visit China later this month to finalize the deal.

Interestingly, the rumor also claims that the Galaxy S27’s camera hardware could remain largely unchanged from the current model. Supply-chain sources reportedly have not observed any major shifts in camera-related component orders. Of course, software improvements and image-processing upgrades could still bring meaningful camera enhancements even if the hardware remains similar.

As with all early Galaxy S27 rumors, this information should be treated with caution. Samsung has not finalized every aspect of the device, and plans can change significantly before mass production begins. With the Galaxy S27 series expected to launch in early 2027, it will likely be several months before a clearer picture of Samsung’s plans begins to emerge.
