Samsung appears to be expanding its partnership with BOE regarding the display business. The company’s President, TM Roh, will visit Chinese display maker BOE later this month to discuss supply cooperation. The meetings could be centered on the Galaxy S27 and Smart TV panels.

Samsung appears to deepen its display partnership with BOE

TM Roh leads Samsung’s smartphone and TV businesses. According to a report from ETNews, Roh will visit BOE in China at the end of this month. This is the first time the head of Samsung’s MX and DX business is visiting China’s largest display panel manufacturer.

One key discussion could be the possible OLED panel supply for the base Galaxy S27, expected to debut in Q1 2027. Samsung has traditionally sourced OLED panels for its flagship phones from its in-house display unit. However, increasing component costs are putting pressure on the company. As such, it is looking for other sourcing options.

An earlier report suggests BOE has offered $5 less price (per panel) than that of Samsung Display. The Korean firm has even been evaluating samples from the Chinese firm. It looks like Samsung’s MX business unit is satisfied with the performance and is planning to ink a deal. If this pans out, it will be a big success for BOE. The Chinese maker attempted to supply OLED panels for the 2021 Galaxy S21 but failed due to quality and unit costs.

It is worth mentioning that BOE faced setbacks with Apple’s iPhone supply chain due to quality issues. So, industry watchers are concerned about whether BOE can meet the standards for Samsung’s flagship smartphone. The Chinese maker already powers some budget Galaxy phones, so the possibility is highly likely.

Apart from OLED panels, the executive may also discuss expanding the supply chain for BOE’s LCD panels used in Samsung’s TVs. This could bolster cooperation between the two companies in both mobile and television display segments.
