Samsung’s 2025 mid-range phones could be in for some unexpected upgrades. Both the Galaxy A56 and A36 appear to support 45W wired charging, a huge jump from their predecessors’ 25W charging limit. The new models should also be eligible for six years of OS and security updates.

Galaxy A56 and A36 support 45W charging, certifications reveal

In November 2024, a Chinese regulatory agency (3C) revealed that Samsung will offer 45W (10V/4.5A) charging support on the Galaxy A56. The same has been confirmed by a recent TUV Rheinland certification. The German testing firm also certified the Galaxy A36 with 45W charging at 10V and 4.5A. These are massive upgrades for Samsung’s mid-range lineup.

TUV Rheinland listed the Galaxy A56 with model numbers SM-A566B, SM-A566B/DS, SM-A566E, and SM-A566E/DS. These are single-SIM and dual-SIM variants for various global markets. Samsung seemingly doesn’t plan to launch the phone in the US — the carrier-locked US version has the suffix “U” in the model number and the unlocked version has “U1”.

The Galaxy A36, meanwhile, appeared with model numbers SM-A366B, SM-A336B/DS, SM-A366E, SM-A366E/DS, SM-A366U, SM-A366U1, SM-A366W, SM-S366V, and SM-A3660. As you can see, Samsung has prepared this model for a US launch. There’s also a Verizon-specific version (SM-S366V) with mmWave 5G support. We can see a Canadian version (W) as well.

Samsung is expected to launch the Galaxy A56 and A36 in March. Both models should ship with Android 15 and One UI 7, with the company offering updates up to Android 21/One UI 13 sometime in 2031. The devices are also getting a new selfie camera and many other upgrades.

Meanwhile, Samsung is gearing up to launch the Galaxy S25 flagships. It has already opened pre-reservations for the devices ahead of the big Unpacked event on January 22. if you plan to buy, you should consider pre-reserving the phones. It’s a no-commitment promotion that offers exclusive freebies if you pre-order at launch. You can find more details here.
